Project:
A 100-year-old Queenslander, which had beautiful bones but was extremely rundown and pokey, with yellow exterior walls and the original dark timber interior walls. The clients were in the process of a major renovation and asked us for paint schedules, and all new furniture, furnishings, lighting, art, curtains and styling throughout.
Our role:
Like us, the client doesn’t like clutter, so we wanted furniture that was perfectly sized and suited to the home with no superfluous items, and plenty of clever storage. It was to be furnished inside and out, with particular attention given to minimising the western sun in the living area.
Highlights:
We placed the furniture in the centre of the spacious 7.4 x 7.6m living room, and anchored it with a custom-sized square wool rug and oversized bespoke inky blue ottoman, to create a sense of intimacy. This ottoman is one of our favourites and we’ve used similar versions of it ever since! Another highlight was the linen-blend sheer curtain, which softens the impact of the sun, and at 9m long is the longest we’ve ever done!
Outcome:
One lovely happy family, and a home that appeared in both Home Beautiful magazine and The Courier Mail’s Brisbane News magazine (seven years later, we did a refresh, and that shoot featured in Queensland Homes).
